Otto D. HANDSCHUH in Stuttgart

The artist Otto D. Handschuh (b. 1978 in Bad Schlema) ostensibly works with classic materials, such as stone, wood, and metal. He adds these materials, assemblage-like, onto found objects and puts them through a process of transformation, using equally classic sculptural methods.
He takes a sandstone capital, for instance, which originally decorated the facade of a house, and alters it until it reaches its static limits. Or he dismantles the furnishings of an office and reassembles the individual pieces into poetic structures. The resulting installation bears the title »Die innere Konstruktion von Büroräumen“ (The Inner Construction of Office Spaces) – title that suggests the good deal of humor that resonates in Handschuh’s approach.
